I have really been bothered by having to watch ABC shows online through a tunnel, which as of my most recent discovery was pointless. The problem isn’t with comcast filtering, there is some sort of problem with the ad system they have setup. Some of the ABC affiliates don’t work correctly and cause the shows to never start playing resulting in either a black screen or the waiting cursor circling round and round.
Assumming you have no other problems, open a new browser window or tab and enter the following URL.
http://fep.abc.go.com/fep/player?src=abccomjs&aff=kjif
That’s it, you should now be able to watch all the ABC.com online shows. The only difference is the &aff=kjif at the end. Enjoy.
PS: ABC please fix your affiliate system, kthx.

You got me farther than I’ve gotten so far with the new player. The advertisement plays, but then the little arrow just keeps spinning and the episode won’t play for me. I’m on a Macintosh and it won’t work with either the latest versions of Safari or Firefox. I’m really, really frustrated by it all. I’ve tried everything I’ve read so far on the internet to fix this or work around it and nothing has worked so far.

I fired up my mac and tried to duplicate your problem but it worked fine. If the ad is playing fine then the link above with the affiliate fix is working which leads me to think it is a problem with the move plugin. You have probably already tried reinstalling, but maybe one more time is a charm. This time don’t install the plugin from the abc site, instead try this link instead: http://www.movenetworks.com/install-move-player?showcase
From movenetworks.com
To uninstall the Move Media Player plugin from Apple Safari or Mozilla Firefox (Mac OS X)
* In Mac OS X, open a Finder window.
* Click the Home icon (usually has your account name by it) in the Finder window.
* Click Library.
* Click Internet Plug-ins.
* Drag the Move Media Player plugin to the trash.
* Click Library.
* Click Caches.
* Drag the “Move Networks” directory to the trash.
* Empty the trash.
Another step not listed, clear all your cookies/temp files etc. then restart the browser completely then try it.

@Paula
If you are talking about in/un/reinstalling the player on windows see the second paragraph of this post: http://www.joeywendt.com/2008/10/02/wierd-problems-with-the-abccom-full-episode-player/
If that is not what you meant, could you clarify a little bit more please.

didn’t work for me

Did not work for me. I get a FEP Server cannot be reached in time. Try again later. I get no responses from ABC.com!
I was able to use the old player at;

Your link worked for me where the direct abc.com did not. I’m very curious as to why yours worked on nothing else does. Can you explain more what the problem is and why your link worked. Thank you.

@Jill
When you use the link from the abc site you are directed to the FEP without any affiliate parameter in the URL. With no affiliate parameter the player goes off to find your local abc affiliate using your IP address to determine your location and the appropriate local affiliate. I’m not sure exactly why but some affiliates just dont work for some reason. I’m guessing abc has to setup each affiliate in their ad system otherwise the ads dont play. Whenever you use the link I provided it forces the player to use another affiliate besides your actual local station. In the link I put in my post, KJIF.
At the time of writing my findings I sent in feedback detailing what I found and how I came to the conclusion and just received the canned response, but I can now go through the direct abc link and the full episode player works fine for me now, affiliate being KTBS. Whether my feedback helped find the problem or not I probably won’t ever know, but it at least means they are fixing whatever is wrong slowly but surely.
